“All of this becomes possible”

Spending the fall going to these impact tournaments was very eye opening to you warnings about showcase tournaments and the potential for scams. My son played for a solid program at the top level, however they also formed so many teams in the fall to fill out their interest in Impact baseball, often filling 60% of the field with their own teams, so kids were playing each other most every game. My sons team shared a coach, who while knowledgeable of the game, also coached another team in the program, so every Sunday we played another 17u team from our program while the young man coached both teams from the third base box. Considering they only played 3 games a weekend and at least one of the other games was also against another of our teams, seemed like an aweful lot of money on hotels, travel and other expenses to play games we could have arranged for free at the local high school. All of this becomes possible with the possibility of making their elite team which travels and does well in National showcase tournaments, of course NONE of the main coaches ever came to a single game through the entire fall season. A season which ended after several changes and schedule altering moves to accomodate the need to fill touraments out for the Impact benefit with little regard for the players or families, concluded with a throw in tournament several hours away, playing on of our own 16u teams 3 teams in the same weekend. While the Dirtbags have a solid reputation, particularly on the national stage, buyer beware of participating in their fall program, because it is designed for financial growth rather than player development.
